Get your pupils to design their dream library and win a building for your school

Primary schools across the country are invited to take part in our exciting Inspiring Libraries Competition.

We want pupils to let their imaginations run wild and show us what libraries and inspirational reading rooms could look like.

From quiet reading corners and shelves stacked with books, to spaces to act out your stories and to write your own, the possibilities for what your library can be like are endless. This is your chance to showcase bold ideas and creativity – and inspire how reading and storytelling spaces in schools might evolve in years to come.

How the competition works

Schools are invited to create and submit drawings of their vision for an inspiring library.

There’s no limit to how many entries each school can submit – the more, the better! Entries will be judged by a dedicated Portakabin panel, who will be looking at:

  • Effort and presentation
  • Usefulness and purpose
  • Creativity and imagination

The overall winner will be awarded a fully equipped building for their school to use for 12 months as a library and reading space. In addition, the pupil whose drawing is selected will receive a £50 National Book Token. (Terms and conditions apply)

Key dates

Submission deadline: Friday 5 December

Extra learning opportunity

Libraries play an important role in supporting the wellbeing of primary school pupils by offering a safe, calm, and inclusive environment where children can explore their interests, develop a love of reading, and build confidence.

In celebration of World Mental Health Day on 10 October, we’ve created a fully resourced lesson pack – free for teachers to download. Packed with fun and practical activities, it’s designed to raise the importance of wellbeing and spark curiosity among your pupils.
